Know what you're in for.
Every other lead magnet we offer is designed to reduce friction. The Audit is designed to be real. Be honest about whether you can commit to it — the results are only as good as the work.
Time
4–6 hours of active work, spread across 2–4 weeks of calendar time. The wait is because of the anonymous employee survey — respondents need 5–10 business days. Your leadership-team hours cluster in the first week and the last week.
Data
Total employees. Average compensation. Annual healthcare cost per employee. Voluntary turnover rate. Cost to replace an employee. If you don't have these, we provide industry defaults — but your own numbers produce your real answer.
A small team
Typical: CHRO (owner), CFO or Controller (financial data), Benefits Manager (healthcare claims), HRBP or Comms (survey admin). Invite them from inside the Audit. Each fills in their own piece.
If this sounds like more than you can commit to right now, start with the 8-minute Scorecard or the 3-minute Calculator — both give you a directional answer in far less time.
A completed Audit gives you receipts.
Real dollars. Real priorities. Real next steps.
- Your Total Annual Wellness Leakage — the single headline dollar figure, sourced and defensible.
- Pillar-by-pillar dollar costs — Sleep, Fuel, Movement, Stress, Connection. Each with Structural + Outcomes + Financial scoring.
- Your workforce's actual voice — aggregated survey responses, with crisis indicators auto-flagged.
- Your 30/60/90-day roadmap — priorities anchored to your highest-cost pillar, lowest-scoring pillar, and biggest quick win.
- A shareable summary page — link you can send your leadership team or board in one click.
- A concierge walkthrough — within 48 hours of completion, a member of our team reviews the results with you.
Four sessions. Two to four weeks. One diagnostic.
Setup
Create your Audit workspace. Invite collaborators (CFO, Benefits Manager, HRBP). Enter your organizational information — headcount, compensation, healthcare costs, turnover rate.
Structural assessments
For each of the 5 pillars, complete a checklist of what your workplace has actually built — versus what the handbook says. Your leadership team works in parallel, each on their assigned piece.
Employee survey
The Audit generates a pre-built anonymous survey. You send it via your preferred channel (email, Slack, intranet). We aggregate the responses — you never see individual answers.
Finalize and review
Results auto-populate. Your leadership team completes the Priority Analysis together. Download the report. Book the 48-hour concierge walkthrough.
A serious diagnostic for serious operators.
This is the tool Chapter 10 promised.
"This audit reveals the specific dollars you're losing to structural gaps — and gives you a 30/60/90-day roadmap to close them. It's the hardest version of the wellness conversation, and the only one worth having."
If you're reading Wellness at Work, this is the digital companion to Chapter 10 and Appendix A. Same framework, now interactive and collaborative — and produces a shareable PDF report at the end.
Why this audit exists.
The Strategic Wellness Audit is the culmination of a framework Andrew McConnell has been building across two decades — at Harvard Law School, McKinsey & Company, as CEO of Alively, and through the research for Wellness at Work. It integrates the Integrated Benefits Institute's presenteeism methodology, SHRM's turnover cost research, Harvard's ROI meta-analysis, and the Five Pillars framework from the book.
Andrew is a WSJ bestselling author (Get Out of My Head: Creating Modern Clarity with Stoic Wisdom), TEDx speaker, and host of The Home of Healthspan podcast.
Alively is delivered in partnership with WHOOP (wearable and membership) and 360 Advantage (Section 125 implementation, 21.9M+ member encounters, $250M+ in client healthcare costs saved).
